From The Age:
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said the bombing "underlines the enormous importance" of having the Australian troops in Iraq. "Without them we would have to close the embassy," he said. "We would not be able to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqis or negotiate wheat contracts."
Oh, it's the wheat! Of course!
We're a funny people, that's for sure.

And not just in The Age…
From Farrago Edition 3:
(although rather strangely the edition number isn’t noted anywhere in this ‘edition’ - possibly to destabilise dominant Media Office-output-expectation narratives although I’ll leave it to others to speculate…)Anyway, on with the show…
“This years [sic] team of students is closely watched, and their actions well chronicled, by a new wave of underground student media that has sprung up. Towards the end of last year, the crazy left wing Farrago went completely postal leaving a dearth of means for students to find out what was actually going on in their Union. Slowly and gradually, there grew news ways [sic] to get up to speed. series of posters slapped haphazardly over graffiti [sic]. The next thing we new [sic], it was online. The comical yet politically piercing Super Goodpals, politically-aimed weblogs such as Joseph Pearson’s make-believe.org’ [sic] or even Tedi Gunawin’s unpredictable (and ungrammatical) tedsta.com. Not to forget the mutated, vitriolic melbourne.indymedia [sic]. These outlets for political gossip, speculation, ruminations, and occasionally, defamation [sic], are untrammelled by any governing body and, as in the case of goodpals.org with its various internet forums, are reasonably democratic.” (emphasis added)
Oh, it’s about the democracy! Of course! Presumably to rectify the undemocracy that was the 2003 Student Elections. Presumably to “enforce accountability” on the Office Bearers ‘elected’ through this sham process.
Miranda’s a funny person, that’s for sure.
Other gems…
Kenneth Davidson makes beeline for closest laptop…
“…this years [sic] budget seems to revel in its own suprlus, and in the fact that the national dept has been reduced from the $96 billion deficit (the work of Labor) to a mere $20 billion. This means Australian has less interest to pay, and more money to spend on health, education and family tax benefits.” (on the 2004 Federal Budget)
Today Tonight content void filled…
“It is always cheering [sic] to know that if I were to become pregnant right now, I would receive a healthy $3000!” (on the 2004 Federal Budget)
Roy Morgan queried on wording of gender survey…
“Start ranting about the virtues of hairy legs, burning bras or about all men being complicit in the act of rape and you have already put the majority - who see the feminist movement as a passe dinosaur - offside.” (on feminism)
Archduke Franz Ferdinand announces intention to sue similarly-titled band…
“14 years after Federation, our state and Federal Parliaments are still populated mainly by men…” (on feminism)
And there’s plenty more, if you haven’t yet been blinded by the below-cost top-brand bargains at designerscents.com.au

Well, well. After seven and a half years, I finally wend my way between the covers of Farrago. The last one before I graduate, no less. I will have to frame the page.
Funny though, it’s almost like they’re rather keen to see the back of me.
Andy, if you want a blog, no strings attached, send us an email.
In other news, totally off-topic but I can’t be arsed doing a separate post for it, I’m really enjoying this picture.
Tracy
Congrats on your mention Joseph!
I thought there were some good points about the third issue. John Ronan’s musings continue to amuse, and Jake Anson’s articles were well written and look like a lot of time was spent putting them together. If the rest of the mag was done like the middle section (proper interviews, researched articles as opposed to random rants) I’d be quite happy with the result.
Davo (as in Ticket Davo)
Farrago is full of evil little dudes at the moment. I am glad that I only have a week left at Uni.
Only just found your blog; keep up the good work.
Joseph
Thanks Davo! Congrats on finishing too.
